As I have said in an earlier post I just got back from Australia, I had gone on a business trip where I had set up several meetings for products I was interested in. I had never gone for these boards I just stumbled across them and I got so excited in the product.
The quality is second to none, they are environmentally friendly and the wood is Camphor Laurel
Camphor Laurel timber has a unique natural anti-bacterial property which makes it a superior food preparation surface in regard to food hygiene
It has been independently tested against other chopping boards like glass, plastic and cedar.. and it was found to be far superior to any other material. Which as a chef is really important to me.
What I really fell in love with though was their beauty, they are like pieces of art and each board is unique as every tree has different colours flowing throughout.
With what we have done to our planet in destroying nature this is actually helping nature to thrive. Coming from Australia I have a passion and love for some of the more natural beautiful resources that we have at our hands. We are a very blessed nation with lots, of not only beautiful plants, but many contain oils and such immense healing properties that you can take for granted living there not realizing just how blessed you are. You will read below how these trees are killing off some of natural fauna and flora that is indigenous to Australia and the resolve the authorities have come to, to protect not only our beautiful landscape but also utilizing the source of the problem, as well, so as not to waste materials.
Camphor Laurel as a salvaged and sustainable resource.
The species is an invasive woody weed capable of aggressively replacing native trees along watercourses and on soil types which formerly supported rainforest’s.
The infestation and spread of Camphor Laurel is aided by birds dispersing the seed and its spread is particularly prevalent in disturbed landscapes, thereby contributing to soil erosion and the demise of native Flora and Fauna.
Camphor Laurel has long been recognized as a serious environmental weed species in Australia, and control programs advocate integrated removal and replacement with native trees.
Salvaging of Camphor Laurel provides a good source of ethically acceptable timber.
So you can see why this excites me and how great it is to be able to share it with you, You can see the beauty from the photos but to see the real quality is in the touch and site of them.
I have posted a couple of photos to give you an idea, they do not do the boards justice at all and I have so many different sizes from huge to small, I also have lazy susan’s . I will posting some more photos once I buy some nice felt for the backing so the boards stand out in colour and size.
These are beautiful. Please let me know when they are available. TKS
